President Buhari Id-El-Fitr message to the nation

Image
Sallah message from our president below.. Fellow Compatriots, I greet and felicitate with you all, especially our citizens of the Islamic faith on this auspicious occasion of the 2015 Eid-el-Fitr celebrations. I congratulate all those who have successfully completed the Ramadan fast in keeping with the injunction of our Creator. Although we have come to the end of this year’s month of Ramadan, I believe that a greater acceptance by Nigerians of its key lessons of self-denial and sacrifice will serve our dear country well as we strive to overcome our present challenges, undo the damage done by years of bad governance and accelerate the pace of national development.

World’s biggest snake killed in Africa (photo)

Image
Some stories are too big to believe sometimes. The Anaconda as big as this, and other details surrounding the story is a good example. This voluminous and monstrous beast has a record to have killed 257 human beings and 2325 animals but was killed in Africa’s Amazon River by team of 37 brutal hunters, called Africa’s Royal British commandos. Oh my God, if this animal is for real, then there are many more wonders yet untold and unheard. Reports revealed the snake is 134 feet long and 2067 kgs. Indeed this should be the world’s largest Anaconda. Unfortunately, this story has been refuted by a Nigerian online platform, debunking the report that the Anaconda must have been killed in South America and not Africa. Read what he said below between, a lot of Nigerians agree with him with some even saying who counted the animals it killed, who counted the human beings? Lol continue…

Drama at Nigerian High Commission in London today (photos)

Image
An email from a LIB reader The Nigeria High Commission in London needs an urgent overhaul. This afternoon we Nigerians were treated like animals in Fleet street London all because we want to do BVN for those of us that have  accounts in Nigeria. Things soon became chaotic and someone called police on us.  They allowed us converge on the street and then locked us out. We are also being forced to pay £30.00 each but none of the officials or the website can explain what the money is for. Is it not free in Nigeria?

The Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has accused the former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, of tampering with $1bn from the Federation Account, which he claimed was used “for election purposes.” Oshiomhole, who disclosed this on Monday at a seminar organised by the state government for permanent secretaries, directors and deputy directors on enhancing internally generated revenue in the state, challenged the former minister to tell Nigerians how the Excess Crude Account was drawn down to $4.1bn from the peak of $10bn, when no approval was given by the National Economic Council for any withdrawals. He also called for a forensic audit to determine the true amount which he said was illegally spent from the Federation Account under her watch as a minister. The governor said, “The truth is, many things went wrong even at the federal level. As you might have read in the papers while the Federal Government, under Goodluck Jona

Nigerians will be fed up with APC in 1 year

Dr. Cairo Ojougboh was member, House of Representatives, Senate Liaison Officer to late President Umaru Yar’ Adua and currently National Vice Chairman, South -South of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. In this interview, he said for the PDP to get it right after its loss in the last elections the truth must be told. He attributed the loss to former President Goodluck Jonathan’s refusal to adhere to an existing agreement. He also, among others, spoke on Senator Ike Ekweremadu’s election as deputy Senate President and the illegality of President Muhammadu Buhari’s bail out to states. Excerpts:  ON why the PDP lost the presidential polls after boasting that it would rule Nigeria for 60 years Let me take you back. When Abacha died, the South came together to say it was their time to produce the president of this country because Abiola had just won the election that was annulled and he was a Southerner. So the North put themselves together and said this agitation if not well handled co

Wearing a bra might be making your boobs saggier, says science

Image
What’s the point? (Picture: Getty) Taking your bra off after a long day is one of life’s greatest pleasures. But, despite years of trusting them to hold our chests up and stop everything heading south, scientists are now saying that   going bra-less might actually help keep your boobs perkier. Pardon?! Dropping a major boob-bombshell, the French study revealed that women could experience about a 1/4-inch (7mm) lift in the nipples for each year they didn’t wear a bra.

12 things we forget to do or say often enough

If you’re leading life in the fast lane, or even just the busy lane, there are a lot of things you might be missing out on. Or think you just don’t have time for. Make time to do or say the following things more often. You won’t be sorry and they will all make you feel better instantly. •     Give or receive a cuddle. Have you hugged your friend, your partner, your pet or your child today? Did you stand still long enough for them to give you a hug? We are social creatures and we all need this contact a lot more than we think. Give hugs, and you will truly receive them. •     Appreciate your food. Food sustains us, and much of it is downright delicious. But so often we eat while we are doing other things, such as driving or watching TV, or working at our desks. Take a few minutes to savour the taste of your lovely sandwich or the excellent cup of coffee. It’s one of life’s pleasures and appreciating your food doesn’t have to be restricted to weekends or dinners at fan

Unhealthy fast food breakfasts guaranteed to blow your diet

Image
Fast food chains have done a very good job of turning breakfast into a game. If only they can create the ultimate crazy breakfast dish, then they can capitalize on the millions of people who pass a fast food joint daily on their way to work. But in this quest to capture the market, they apparently have forgotten about one thing: nutrition. Fast-Food breakfasts make sense for a number of reasons. First and most importantly, they’re convenient. Many are hand-held, and can be quickly picked up enroute to the office and eaten in the car. Second, they're served at a time when the restaurant would otherwise be closed, giving them the opportunity to make money during a different time of day (called a "daypart" in the chain restaurant business). Third, the ingredients — eggs, ham, English muffins, and the like — are easy to source and employees don’t require much additional training in order to prepare them. In the end, it’s a win-win for everybody — except for you

Chelsea demand €35m for John Obi Mikel

Image
Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel lost his starting place to Nemanja Matic last season and he made only six league starts all season for the Blues. Mikel has been at the club since 2006, but he is longer a regular starter for Chelsea, having played only 700 minutes of football all season last term. He divides opinion among the fans , and there is a growing feeling that he could be sold in the summer. ADVERTISEMENT Jose Mourinho probably rates him highly and that’s why despite his limited role in the side, Chelsea are demanding a transfer fee in the region of €35m for him. According to reports in Turkey, Fenerbahce, who have already signed Manchester United duo Nani and Robin van Persie, are looking to add Mikel to their ranks. However, they have to forfeit the chase, as the club cannot afford to meet Chelsea’s valuation of the player.  Fenerbahce president Aziz Yildirim said to the reporters : “Chelsea want €35 million for Mikel.”  According to reports in I

Who's going to be the next Twitter CEO?

Image
There's a growing field of possible candidates, from both inside and outside the company, who analysts believe might be able to help turn Twitter around. Who will Twitter choose as its next CEO? What does it take to move Twitter out of Facebook's shadow? That's one of the existential questions facing a growing list of possible candidates for the top job at Twitter. The list, debated among industry insiders and analysts alike, includes those who work inside the struggling social network and outsiders who have run other tech companies or are maybe masterful enough to give Twitter a much-needed jolt. Analysts believe executive search firm Spencer Stuart will find Twitter's next CEO by Labor Day, or at most past Thanksgiving. The chosen one will succeed interim CEO Jack Dorsey, a co-founder of the company who's also the chief of Square, a mobile-payments compan

Huge data breach prompts resignation of top US official

The director of the US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has resigned after a massive data breach involving more than 20 million people. Katherine Archuleta said she would step down on Friday to help the department "move beyond the current challenges". Authorities suspect that Chinese-based hackers targeted the computer systems of the OPM, which acts as the personnel office of the federal government. Initially the OPM said four million workers were affected by the breach. However, the department disclosed on Thursday that the data of more than 20 million people, including current and former employees, may have been compromised. Authorities in Beijing have publicly denied any involvement. Ms Archuleta resignation comes a day after Democrats and Republicans in Congress called for her to step aside as the scope of the data breach expanded significantly. Among the data targeted were forms used to vet potential employees of federal agencies including as the

APC urges FG to probe past NLNG payments, condemns grandstanding opposition

Image
Press statement from APC The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Federal Government to urgently unravel what happened to the past Company Income Tax/Education tax as well as dividends paid to the Nigerian government by the NLNG, against the background of published reports that the funds were never paid into the Federation Account as they should have been. In a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party also described as a glaring example of grandstanding opposition the attempt by the PDP to distort the facts about the source of the $2.1 billion that was approved for sharing by the three tiers of government by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Male disguised as female killed i4 in Chad market

Image
14 people have been confirmed dead after a male suicide bomber dressed in Burqa, blew himself up in the main market in Chad's capital N'Djamena this morning. Chadian police say 14 people were killed while 74 others sustained injuries. "Our current count is 15 dead," police spokesman Paul Manga, said, a total which included the suicide bomber. Several witnesses say the bomber had tried to enter the market wearing a woman's burqa. Chad authorities banned the head-to-toe religious garment last month saying attackers could use it as a disguise or hide explosives underneath. "The suicide bomber was a man disguised as a woman (in a burqa). He tried to enter the market when he was intercepted by police. That is when he detonated the bomb." the Chadian police spokesperson said.

Obama, Sanders propose boosting solar energy for low, moderate-income Americans

Image
President Obama and presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.) this week announced separate initiatives to help low- and middle-income Americans afford solar power. The White House announced an initiative to increase access to solar energy for all Americans, especially those in low and moderate-income communities, while expanding opportunities to join the solar workforce. One key component of the initiative includes a goal to install 300 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy in federally subsidized housing, which is three times the administration's original goal. Additionally, Obama's proposal would create a National Community Solar Partnership to unlock access to solar power for the nearly 50% of households and businesses that are renters or that don't have adequate roof space to install solar panels. The partnership also includes issuing a guide to support states in developing community solar programs. Community solar farms, which parse o
